Pratunam Market is Bangkok's largest wholesale clothing district, a sprawling maze of open-air stalls, indoor malls, and narrow lanes where fashion at rock-bottom prices draws shoppers from across Southeast Asia and beyond. The area around the Pratunam intersection buzzes with energy as buyers load bags of merchandise for export while individual shoppers hunt for bargain clothing, accessories, and fabrics. ## The Market Layout The Pratunam market zone encompasses several interconnected areas. The outdoor stalls along Petchaburi Road and the surrounding sois sell ready-made clothing at wholesale prices. Platinum Fashion Mall, a massive multi-story complex, houses over 1,300 shops organized by product category. The Baiyoke area behind the tower has additional indoor market buildings. Together, these areas create one of Asia's largest garment trading zones. ## What to Buy Clothing is the primary draw — T-shirts, dresses, jeans, activewear, swimwear, and Thai-style garments are available in every conceivable style. Accessories including bags, jewelry, scarves, and sunglasses fill dedicated sections. Fabric shops sell textiles by the meter for custom tailoring. Prices start from as low as 50 baht for basic T-shirts, with most items well under 300 baht. ## Shopping Tips Wholesale prices apply when buying three or more identical items, but many vendors will give discounts for multiple different purchases. Bargaining is standard at outdoor stalls but less common in Platinum Fashion Mall, which has fixed prices. Bring cash in small denominations. Visit in the morning when selection is fullest and crowds are lighter. Quality varies enormously, so inspect items carefully before purchasing. ## Best Time to Visit Weekday mornings from 10:00 to 12:00 for the calmest experience. Avoid weekends when wholesale buyers from other provinces flood the area. The outdoor market stalls start closing by evening, while Platinum Fashion Mall stays open until 20:00. ## How to Get There BTS Ratchathewi station or Chit Lom station, then walk about 10 minutes. Airport Rail Link Ratchaprarop station is also nearby. By boat, the Khlong Saen Saep canal service to Pratunam pier drops you directly in the market area. ## Nearby Attractions Baiyoke Tower II observation deck is within the market zone. CentralWorld and Gaysorn Village are a short walk south. Pantip Plaza electronics center is nearby. Erawan Shrine is about a 10-minute walk south.
