Bangkok has been a bespoke tailoring destination for over a century, a tradition shaped by Indian and Chinese immigrant tailors who settled along Charoen Krung and Sukhumvit roads in the early 1900s. Today the city is home to hundreds of tailoring shops, and getting a custom suit, dress, or shirt made here costs a fraction of what you would pay in Hong Kong, London, or Milan. A two-piece wool-blend suit typically runs 8,000–15,000 baht at a mid-range tailor, while top-tier establishments working with imported Italian Super 120s or Loro Piana fabrics charge 25,000–60,000 baht — still significantly less than comparable quality in the West. The best tailors on Sukhumvit, Silom, and Charoen Krung have been dressing diplomats, expats, and visiting executives for decades.

The key to a great tailoring experience in Bangkok is allowing enough time: plan for at least two to three fittings over five to seven days for a suit. Avoid the touts outside tourist areas offering 'two suits for 2,000 baht' — these are invariably poor quality with fused (glued) construction rather than proper canvassing. Instead, seek out reputable shops with verifiable reviews, ask to see and feel fabric samples before committing, and bring reference photos of the style you want. For fabrics, explore the wholesale markets at Phahurat (Bangkok's Little India) and Sampeng Lane in Chinatown, where you can source silk, cotton, linen, and wool at prices 40–60 percent below retail. Many tailors will also accompany you to select fabric if you book through their shop.
