    Editorial Policy

How we fact-check, how we disclose, and how we handle mistakes

    6 min readUpdated 2026-07

Bangkok Knowledge is not a wiki, not a content farm, and not an AI-generated site. Every guide is written or reviewed by one of the four named editors on our About page. This policy describes what that means in practice.

    1. Fact-checking method

Every factual claim — a fee, an opening time, a legal rule, a hospital price example — must cite a primary source. We prefer government ministries (immigration.go.th, mol.go.th, moph.go.th, boi.go.th, tatnews.org), operator official sites (BTS, MRT, airport authorities), and JCI/WHO/UNESCO for accreditation status. Blog posts, TripAdvisor threads, and Reddit answers are not primary sources.

We publish the primary sources at the bottom of every guide under 'Sources & official references'. If a claim can't be sourced, we say so — often with phrasing like 'typically 800–1,300 THB' or 'expect' rather than false precision.

    2. On-the-ground verification

Each editor personally visits or uses the venues, offices, transport, and services they write about. For hospitals and visa procedures, this means walking the corridors and standing in the queue. For destination day-trips, this means riding the actual buses, trains, or flights. Guides carry a 'Last visited on the ground' date on the author block when the visit was recent enough to be relevant.

    3. Automated business-data verification

Venue records (hospitals, luxury hotels, embassies, theme parks, water parks) are automatically re-verified against their official websites via a self-hosted Firecrawl instance. The verifier confirms the venue is still open, the name still appears on the landing page, and flags likely phone-number drift. Each verified record shows a 'business data verified' date on the guide's author block.

We intentionally do not use LLM extraction to auto-fill fields — that has known hallucination risks — only automated re-verification of existing hand-authored records.

    4. Affiliate disclosure

Some links on this site are affiliate links (Booking.com, Agoda, Klook, GetYourGuide, 12Go, Wise, SafetyWing). If you click one of them and complete a booking, we earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. Every affiliate widget is labelled with an inline disclosure line. Affiliate revenue funds our on-the-ground research and per-venue photography — it does not affect our editorial recommendations.

We never accept payment to include a venue in a 'best of' list, never write sponsored posts disguised as editorial, and never lift text from PR press releases. If a venue offers to comp our editor a stay or meal, we accept only when the offer is unconditional and the editor discloses it inline on the guide.

    5. Corrections and updates

See something wrong? Email the responsible editor via the address on our contact page. We correct all confirmed factual errors within 5 business days and note material corrections at the bottom of the affected guide. For emergency safety corrections (a scam scheme, a closed hospital), we ship the fix same-day.

    6. AI use

We use AI tools (Claude, GPT-4) as writing assistants — for first-draft outlining, Thai translation, and copy-editing. We do NOT use them to generate factual claims, invent venues, or produce lists of businesses. Every published guide is reviewed line-by-line by the responsible named editor before publication. When AI-authored bilingual content is used, the human editor remains fully responsible for accuracy.
