Bangkok Airport Guide
Everything you need to know about Suvarnabhumi & Don Mueang β from landing to city center
Bangkok is served by two major international airports, and understanding the difference between them will save you time, money, and confusion before you even land. Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK), located about 30 kilometers east of the city center in Samut Prakan province, is the primary hub for full-service carriers and long-haul international flights. Its striking glass-and-steel terminal β designed by Helmut Jahn β handles over 60 million passengers annually and connects directly to downtown Bangkok via the Airport Rail Link, a 30-minute express train to Makkasan and Phaya Thai stations.
Don Mueang Airport (DMK), Bangkok's original airport about 24 kilometers north of the city, is now the dedicated base for budget airlines including AirAsia, Nok Air, and Thai Lion Air. While older and less polished than Suvarnabhumi, Don Mueang has undergone significant renovations and handles a surprising volume of domestic and regional traffic. It is well-connected by the A1 and A2 airport buses to BTS Mo Chit and MRT Chatuchak stations, and metered taxis remain the cheapest option during off-peak hours.
Both airports offer SIM card counters, currency exchange booths, and 24-hour convenience stores in the arrivals hall. If you have a connecting flight between the two airports, a free shuttle bus runs between Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang roughly every 30 minutes β but allow at least two hours for the transfer during rush hour. Below you will find detailed terminal maps, transport options with real-time pricing, immigration tips, lounge reviews, and insider advice to make your arrival or departure as smooth as possible.

Pro Tips
Exchange only a small amount at the airport (worst rates). Use ATMs or SuperRich in the city for better rates.
Airport WiFi is free but slow. Buy a SIM card immediately for reliable 4G/5G.
Suvarnabhumi's Airport Rail Link is the cheapest transfer. Don Mueang's A1 bus to BTS Mo Chit is the best budget option.
Avoid touts offering 'limousine' rides in the arrivals hall. Use official taxi queue or Grab only.
For transfers between BKK β DMK, use the free shuttle bus (runs every 30 min, show boarding pass) or take Grab (~300β400 ΰΈΏ, 45β60 min).
Left luggage at Suvarnabhumi Level 2: 100 ΰΈΏ/piece/day. Don Mueang has similar services at Floor 1.
Download 'AOT Airports' app for real-time flight info, airport maps, and service locations.
Charge your devices before landing β power outlets are limited in immigration queues.
