Weather & Best Time to Visit
Bangkok is tropical year-round. Here's your month-by-month guide.
Bangkok has a tropical monsoon climate with three distinct seasons: hot, rainy, and cool. Temperatures rarely dip below 25 degrees Celsius even in the coolest months, and humidity hovers between 70 and 90 percent year-round, making the city feel perpetually warm and sticky to newcomers. The hot season from March through May is brutal — daytime highs regularly hit 36–39 degrees, and the heat radiating off concrete makes outdoor sightseeing exhausting by midday. April is traditionally the hottest month and also hosts Songkran, the Thai New Year water festival, which conveniently provides three days of city-wide water fights to cool off. Air-conditioned malls, BTS and MRT stations, and riverside restaurants become essential refuges during this period.
The rainy season from June through October brings daily afternoon downpours that are typically intense but short-lived, lasting 30 minutes to two hours before the sun returns. September and October see the heaviest rainfall, and localised flooding in low-lying areas like Lat Phrao and parts of Sukhumvit is not uncommon. The cool season from November through February is by far the most pleasant time to visit — temperatures drop to a comfortable 25–32 degrees, humidity eases, and clear blue skies make it ideal for temple tours, rooftop bars, and walking the markets. This is also peak tourist season, so expect higher hotel prices and larger crowds at popular attractions. Whenever you visit, pack lightweight breathable clothing, a compact umbrella, and reef-safe sunscreen — you will need all three.
