Digital Nomad Guide
Everything you need to work remotely from Bangkok — co-working spaces, visa info, internet, and community.
Why Bangkok is a Digital Nomad Capital
Bangkok has cemented its position as one of the world's top digital nomad destinations, and the numbers back it up: Nomad List consistently ranks it in the global top five, with an estimated 50,000+ remote workers calling the city home at any given time. The reasons are compelling — gigabit fiber internet is standard in most condos and coworking spaces (Thailand's average fixed broadband speed exceeds 200 Mbps), the cost of living allows for a comfortable lifestyle at $1,200–2,000 per month including rent, and the city's infrastructure is genuinely world-class for day-to-day convenience.
Thailand's Destination Thailand Visa (DTV), introduced in 2024, was a game-changer for the remote work community. This 5-year multiple-entry visa allows stays of up to 180 days per entry (extendable by 180 more days at immigration) and explicitly permits remote work for foreign employers — something the old tourist visa rules left in a legal gray area. The DTV costs approximately $300 and can be obtained at Thai consulates worldwide. For those not ready to commit to a visa application, the 60-day visa exemption (available to passport holders from 93 countries) with a single 30-day extension at immigration remains the simplest option for shorter stays.
Bangkok's timezone (GMT+7) is strategically positioned for remote workers: it overlaps with European mornings, the end of the US West Coast workday, and the entirety of the Australian business day, making it workable for teams spread across multiple continents. The coworking scene has exploded — from established chains like JustCo, WeWork, and The Hive to indie spaces like Hubba, Draper Startup House, and the many cafe-coworking hybrids along Ekkamai and Ari. Day passes typically cost 200–500 baht, monthly hot desks 3,000–6,000 baht, and dedicated desks 6,000–12,000 baht. Beyond work, the lifestyle is hard to match: world-class street food for 50–80 baht per meal, premium gyms for 2,000 baht per month, a thriving social scene with regular nomad meetups through communities like Bangkok Digital Nomads and Nomad Coffee Club, and weekend escapes to beaches or mountains just a short flight away.
