Pak Khlong Talat is Bangkok's biggest and most legendary flower market, a fragrant wonderland where mountains of roses, orchids, jasmine, lotus, marigolds, and exotic tropical blooms are traded around the clock. Located near the Memorial Bridge in the Old Town, the market peaks in the late-night hours when trucks deliver fresh flowers from farms across Thailand, creating scenes of extraordinary beauty and industry. ## The Night Market Experience While the market operates 24 hours, the real magic happens between midnight and dawn when wholesale trading reaches its peak. Massive trucks unload bundles of flowers, workers sort and arrange blooms with astonishing speed, and the narrow lanes between stalls become rivers of color and fragrance. Visiting at 2:00 or 3:00 AM offers an unforgettable experience — the combination of nocturnal energy, overwhelming floral scent, and visual splendor is unique to Bangkok. ## What You Will Find The market sells both wholesale and retail. Roses cost a fraction of international prices. Thai orchids come in dozens of varieties. Jasmine garlands (phuang malai) used for Buddhist offerings are woven by hand. Lotus flowers in various stages of bloom are arranged in artistic displays. Seasonal flowers rotate throughout the year, with special abundance during Thai holidays and festivals. ## Beyond Flowers Pak Khlong Talat also includes a fresh vegetable and fruit section, though flowers dominate. The surrounding area has street food vendors and small restaurants catering to the market's nocturnal workforce. The market's location near the river makes it atmospheric for a late-night or early-morning walk. ## Best Time to Visit For the full wholesale experience: midnight to 4:00 AM. For a more casual visit with good selection: early morning from 6:00 to 8:00 or evening from 18:00 to 20:00. Daytime visits are possible but the market is quieter and less photogenic. ## How to Get There MRT Sanam Chai station is a 5-minute walk. The Chao Phraya Express Boat to Yodpiman pier (Pak Khlong Talat pier) provides direct river access. Taxis and tuk-tuks can navigate here easily from anywhere in the Old Town. ## Nearby Attractions Wat Pho and the Grand Palace are a short walk north. The Memorial Bridge offers views over the river. Yodpiman River Walk is a small riverside shopping area adjacent to the market. The Museum of Siam is nearby.
