Weather, festivals, what to pack and what to skip in July
July is the heart of rainy season — and quite a good time to be in Bangkok. The afternoon thunderstorm pattern is now established, the city looks its lushest, and crowds are at the year's low ebb. Domestic Thai schools are back in session so even the family-attractions like SEA Life and KidZania are quiet on weekdays. The big-ticket religious event of the month is Asalha Bucha and Khao Phansa (Buddhist Lent start), which together comprise a long weekend and a 24-hour alcohol ban.
International visitors increase late in July as European summer holidays kick in, but volumes are nowhere near the November–February peak. Hotel rates are at low-season floors. For business travellers, July is genuinely the best month: meetings book easily, taxis are uncongested, and the city operates at a calm tempo. The catch is that rain is daily and sometimes biblical — pack accordingly, and have a flexible mindset.
