Bangkok Postal Services & Package Forwarding

Thailand Post, Kerry, Flash Express, and mail forwarding.

Whether you are sending postcards home, shipping souvenirs, receiving packages from overseas, or running an online business from Bangkok, understanding Thailand's postal and delivery landscape saves time and money. The market includes the national postal service, domestic express couriers, and international shipping companies.

    Thailand Post

Thailand Post (Bor Sor Tor / ไปรษณีย์ไทย) is the national postal service and remains the cheapest option for international mail and packages.

International Mail - Postcards to anywhere in the world: 15 baht - Standard letters (up to 20g): 17-32 baht depending on destination zone - Small packets (up to 2kg): 400-1,200 baht depending on weight and destination - EMS (Express Mail Service): The fastest Thailand Post option for international parcels. 2-7 business days to most countries. A 1 kg package to the US costs approximately 1,100-1,400 baht. To Europe approximately 1,000-1,300 baht. To Australia approximately 900-1,200 baht. - Registered mail: Add 50 baht for tracking capability - Surface mail (sea): Cheapest for heavy items, 1-3 months delivery. A 5 kg package to the US costs approximately 800-1,000 baht.

Domestic Mail - Standard letter: 3-5 baht - Registered letter: 25 baht - EMS domestic: Same-day to next-day in Bangkok, 1-3 days nationwide. Starting from 37 baht.

Main Post Offices The central Bangkok post office is on Charoen Krung Road (New Road) in the Bang Rak district. Open Monday to Friday 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM, Saturday 9 AM to 12 PM. Nana Post Office on Sukhumvit Soi 5 is convenient for tourists. Post offices inside malls have limited services but handle basic mail. Always bring your passport for international registered mail.

    Kerry Express

Kerry Express is Thailand's leading domestic express courier, ubiquitous with their orange-branded drop-off points in malls, convenience stores, and standalone shops.

    • Domestic delivery: Next-day delivery in Bangkok, 1-2 days nationwide
    • Pricing: Starting from 30 baht for documents, 60-150 baht for small packages depending on weight and destination zone
    • Drop-off: Thousands of Kerry Express points across Bangkok. Many are inside 7-Eleven stores.
    • Pickup: Schedule pickup via the app or website for orders of multiple packages
    • Tracking: Full online tracking via kerry-express.com or the app
    • Cash on delivery (COD): Available for e-commerce sellers

Kerry Express is the default choice for domestic shipping — fast, affordable, and with more drop-off points than any competitor.

    Flash Express

Flash Express has grown rapidly as a Kerry competitor, especially popular with Shopee sellers.

    • Domestic delivery: 1-3 days nationwide
    • Pricing: Competitive with Kerry, sometimes cheaper. Starting from 25 baht for small packages.
    • Drop-off: Flash Express points in malls and shops, plus 7-Eleven and Family Mart integration
    • Strength: Deep integration with e-commerce platforms. If you sell on Shopee, Flash Express is often the default shipping option.
    • Tracking: Via flashexpress.co.th or the app

    Grab Express

For same-day delivery within Bangkok, Grab Express uses the ride-hailing motorcycle network to deliver packages.

    • Same-day delivery within Bangkok: Typically 1-3 hours
    • Pricing: 60-200 baht depending on distance
    • Maximum package size: Fits in a motorcycle delivery box (approximately 35x45x35 cm)
    • Best for: Urgent documents, small packages within the city
    • Book via the Grab app under the Delivery section

Lalamove is a similar service for larger items — they offer motorcycle, car, and truck delivery options.

    International Couriers

DHL Express The most reliable international courier in Thailand. DHL offices are in major business districts and malls. A 1 kg document package to the US costs approximately 2,500-3,500 baht with 2-4 business day delivery. A 5 kg package runs 4,000-7,000 baht. Expensive but extremely reliable with excellent tracking.

FedEx Similar pricing and service level to DHL. FedEx has a service center on Silom Road and handles pickup from hotels and offices. Slightly cheaper than DHL for some routes.

UPS Less common in Thailand but available for commercial shipping. Higher prices than DHL and FedEx for personal packages.

For international shipping, the decision usually comes down to cost versus speed: Thailand Post EMS at 1,000-1,500 baht and 3-7 days, or DHL/FedEx at 2,500-5,000+ baht and 2-4 days.

    Addressing Format

Thai addressing goes from specific to general, the opposite of Western format:

    • Name
    • House/building number, floor, room
    • Soi (sub-street), Thanon (road)
    • Khwaeng (sub-district), Khet (district)
    • Province (Krung Thep Maha Nakhon for Bangkok)
    • Postal code

Example: Khun Somchai 123/45 Soi Sukhumvit 31 Thanon Sukhumvit Khwaeng Khlong Toei Nuea, Khet Wattana Krung Thep Maha Nakhon 10110

For receiving international mail, adding THAILAND in English on the last line is sufficient. The postal code is the most critical element for domestic delivery. Bangkok postal codes all start with 10 (e.g., 10110 for Sukhumvit, 10500 for Silom, 10330 for Phloen Chit).

    Package Forwarding for Digital Nomads

Long-term residents and digital nomads who receive packages from overseas have several options:

    • Use your accommodation address — condos and serviced apartments typically accept packages at reception
    • PO Boxes at major post offices — available for rent at approximately 400-1,200 baht per year
    • Private mailbox services like Regus and Spaces offer business addresses with mail handling
    • Some co-working spaces accept packages for members

For forwarding packages from the US to Thailand, services like ShipTo.me and Buyandship allow you to ship to a US warehouse address and then forward to Bangkok. Useful for items that do not ship internationally or for consolidating multiple packages. Costs are higher than direct shipping but often the only option for US-only retailers.

    Lazada and Shopee Delivery

If you are shopping on Thailand's dominant e-commerce platforms, understanding their delivery ecosystem helps set expectations:

    • Standard delivery: 1-5 days within Bangkok via Kerry, Flash, or J&T Express. Free shipping promotions are frequent — look for free shipping vouchers on the app.
    • Express delivery: Same-day or next-day available from select sellers, typically 20-50 baht extra
    • Pickup points: Both platforms offer pickup at convenience stores and locker points if you are not home to receive packages
    • COD: Cash on delivery is available and commonly used
    • Returns: Both platforms have return policies, but the process requires dropping packages at courier points

    Customs and Import Duties

    • Personal imports under 1,500 baht value are generally exempt
    • Above that, import duty of 0-60 percent depending on item category plus 7 percent VAT applies
    • DHL and FedEx handle customs clearance for you (add a handling fee)
    • Thailand Post packages go through Thai customs — you may receive a notice to pay duty at the post office
    • Electronics, clothing, and food items are commonly assessed. Books are duty-free.

    Tips

    • Always get tracking for important shipments
    • Pack items securely — post office staff can help with packing materials for a small fee
    • Keep receipts for insurance claims
    • For fragile souvenirs, DHL or FedEx's professional packing service is worth the premium
    • Avoid shipping food products internationally — customs restrictions apply in most countries
    • Thailand Post offices sell packing boxes and materials at reasonable prices

Bangkok's delivery infrastructure is modern and efficient, especially for domestic shipping. Whether you are sending a postcard or running an e-commerce business, there is a service matched to your budget and timeline.
