Asiatique The Riverfront is Bangkok's most popular open-air lifestyle and entertainment complex, built on the site of a former Danish East Asiatic Company warehouse along the Chao Phraya River. Combining over 1,500 boutiques with restaurants, entertainment venues, and the towering Asiatique Sky Ferris wheel, it offers a uniquely atmospheric evening out in a beautifully restored heritage setting. ## History and Setting The site served as an international trading post in the early 20th century when the Danish East Asiatic Company operated warehouses and shipping facilities here. The original warehouse structures have been preserved and repurposed into four thematic districts: Chareonkrung District for fashion and accessories, Town Square District for dining, Waterfront District for riverside restaurants, and Factory District for street fashion and souvenirs. The industrial heritage architecture gives the complex a distinctive character. ## Shopping Over 1,500 shops sell everything from Thai silk and handicrafts to contemporary fashion and handmade jewelry. The Factory District offers the best deals on souvenirs and casual wear. Higher-end Thai designers showcase in the Chareonkrung District. Bargaining is possible at smaller stalls but not at established shops. ## Entertainment The Asiatique Sky Ferris wheel stands 60 meters tall and offers stunning views of the river and city at night. Calypso Cabaret presents world-famous ladyboy shows twice nightly. Muay Thai Live combines martial arts with theatrical storytelling. Joe Louis Thai Puppet Theatre preserves traditional Thai puppetry. Street performers and live music add to the atmosphere throughout the evening. ## Best Time to Visit Arrive around 17:00 to 18:00 to browse shops before sunset, then enjoy dinner with river views as darkness falls and the complex lights up. Friday and Saturday evenings are liveliest. Weekday evenings are less crowded and more comfortable for shopping. ## How to Get There Free shuttle boats depart from Sathorn pier (BTS Saphan Taksin) every 15 minutes starting at 16:00. The boat ride takes about 15 minutes and is a pleasant journey along the river. By taxi, the complex is accessible from Charoen Krung Road. ## Nearby Attractions ICONSIAM is a short distance upriver. The Chao Phraya River cruise boats pass by the complex. Wat Yannawa, an unusual boat-shaped temple, is near Saphan Taksin. The creative Charoen Krung neighborhood with its galleries and cafés is accessible from the complex.
