Benjakitti Park underwent a massive expansion and renovation completed in 2022, transforming it from a modest lakeside park into one of Southeast Asia's most impressive urban green spaces. The park now covers 130 acres stretching from the Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre all the way toward Lumpini Park, connected by an extraordinary elevated Skywalk that carries visitors through the treetops above the city streets.

    The Skywalk Experience

The 1.8-kilometer Skywalk is the park's signature feature and genuinely one of the most remarkable urban walkways in Asia. Elevated several meters above street level, it winds through a canopy of mature trees, passes over busy roads, and offers stunning views of the Bangkok skyline. The pathway is wide, well-maintained, and illuminated at night, making it popular for both morning joggers and evening strollers. The Skywalk connects the Benjakitti Forest Park section to Lumpini Park, creating a continuous green corridor through the city center.

    Lake and Wetlands

The original Benjakitti Park centers around a large artificial lake — actually a converted tobacco factory reservoir. A flat 1.8-kilometer loop circles the lake, making it one of the city's most popular running routes. The surface is smooth asphalt, well-lit after dark, and flat with no elevation changes, which makes it ideal for runners of all levels. The wetland areas surrounding the newer forest section feature native plants, water features, and educational signage about the local ecosystem.

    Best Time to Visit

The park is excellent at any time of day, but the experience differs significantly. Morning visitors between 5:30 and 7:00 AM enjoy cooler temperatures and a dedicated running crowd. The evening hours from 6:00 to 8:30 PM bring a magical atmosphere — the Skywalk is beautifully lit, the city skyline glows in the background, and a steady breeze makes the walk genuinely pleasant even in Bangkok's hot months. Weekend mornings can get crowded around the lake loop.

    How to Get There

MRT Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre station is directly adjacent to the park's main entrance. BTS Asok station is roughly a 10-minute walk to the northern entrance of the Skywalk. The park's multiple entry points make it easy to access from various directions in the Sukhumvit area.

    Facilities

Clean restrooms are available at both the lake area and the forest park section. Water fountains are placed along the jogging paths. A small cafe operates near the lake. The park has ample seating, shaded areas, and wheelchair-accessible paths throughout. Bicycle rentals are sometimes available on weekends.

    Tips for Visitors

If you only have time for one activity, walk the Skywalk at sunset — the combination of fading daylight, city lights coming on, and the elevated perspective is unforgettable. Bring water as the Skywalk section has limited drink vendors. The lake loop is better for serious running while the Skywalk is better for a scenic walk. Combine both areas for a full morning of exercise spanning 5-6 kilometers.

    What Makes Benjakitti Special

Benjakitti represents the future of Bangkok's approach to urban green space. The park demonstrates that a dense tropical city can create world-class public spaces by thinking vertically and connecting fragmented green areas. The Skywalk concept — elevating pedestrians above traffic to walk through treetops — is a model that other cities are now studying. For visitors, it offers a genuinely unique experience that you cannot find anywhere else in Bangkok.
