    10 Must-Visit Cafés in Bangkok

Bangkok's specialty coffee scene rivals the world's best.

Bangkok's specialty coffee scene has exploded over the past decade, growing from a handful of third-wave pioneers to hundreds of world-class cafes scattered across the city. Thai-grown beans from Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai now compete on the global stage, and Bangkok baristas regularly place in World Barista Championship qualifiers. Whether you need a reliable workspace, a photogenic flat white, or a single-origin pour-over, the city delivers.

Thonglor and Ekkamai: The Coffee Corridor

Roots Coffee Roaster on Thonglor Soi 17 is widely regarded as Bangkok's specialty coffee pioneer. Their flagship shop has a sleek industrial interior, a cupping bar, and beans roasted on-site from farms in northern Thailand. A single-origin pour-over runs 140-180 baht. Just a few minutes away, Kaizen Coffee at 1/F Seen Space, Ekkamai Soi 10, focuses on Japanese-influenced precision brewing. Their iced Kyoto-style cold drip (160 baht) is a slow-extracted masterpiece. Also in Ekkamai, Ceresia Coffee Roasters at 593/29 Sukhumvit 63 serves competition-grade espresso from 100 baht.

Phrom Phong and Ari: Hidden Gems

Factory Coffee at the Rain Hill complex on Sukhumvit 47 was one of Bangkok's first specialty shops, and their hand-drip bar remains excellent. Espresso starts at 80 baht. In the Ari neighborhood, Craft on Phahonyothin Soi 7 roasts its own beans and has a peaceful garden setting where freelancers camp for hours. A cortado is 90 baht. Gallery Drip Coffee inside the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre (BACC) on Rama 1 Road offers free wifi, air conditioning, and Thai single-origin espresso from 80 baht, making it one of the best-value specialty cafes in the city.

    Charoen Krung and Old Town

The old town has seen a cafe renaissance. Wallflowers Cafe at 31-33 Charoen Krung Soi 67 operates from a converted shophouse with exposed brick walls. Their cold brew (120 baht) is smooth and pairs well with their banana bread. Featherstone Bistro Cafe at 60 Charoen Krung Soi 30 is a French-Thai hybrid that serves excellent espresso alongside croissants baked in-house.

What to Know About Thai Coffee

    • Thai-grown arabica from Doi Chaang, Doi Tung, and Khun Chang Kian is genuinely excellent. Ask for single-origin Thai beans.
    • Traditional Thai iced coffee (oliang) is brewed with a cloth sock filter and sweetened with condensed milk. Street vendors charge 25-35 baht.
    • Most specialty cafes open between 8-9 AM and close by 5-6 PM. Weekend mornings are peak hours.
    • Expect to pay 80-120 baht for espresso-based drinks and 120-200 baht for pour-overs at specialty shops.

The Best Cafe for Every Need

    • Best for working: Roots Coffee (fast wifi, plugs at every seat)
    • Best for Instagram: Floral Cafe at Napasorn on Sukhumvit 31 (flower-filled interior, pink lattes)
    • Best value: Gallery Drip Coffee at BACC (80 baht espresso, free wifi, central location)
    • Best cold brew: Brave Roasters on Sukhumvit 23 (nitrogen cold brew on tap, 140 baht)
    • Best neighborhood vibe: Craft in Ari (garden seating, local crowd)

Bangkok coffee culture is no longer playing catch-up with Melbourne, Tokyo, or Portland. It has carved its own identity, blending Thai-grown beans, creative baristas, and gorgeous cafe design into something uniquely its own.
