Bangkok Art & Culture Centre (BACC)
Contemporary art gallery with rotating exhibitions, workshops, and art shops.
The Bangkok Art and Culture Centre (BACC) is Bangkok's premier contemporary art space, a striking 11-story cylindrical building at the Siam intersection that hosts rotating exhibitions of Thai and international art, photography, design, and performance across multiple gallery floors. With free admission, art shops, cafés, and a creative community atmosphere, the BACC is a cultural anchor in the heart of Bangkok's commercial district. ## The Building The BACC's distinctive cylindrical design features a spiraling ramp that connects gallery floors in a continuous ascending path, reminiscent of the Guggenheim Museum. The open central atrium allows natural light to flood the interior spaces. The building was completed in 2008 after decades of campaigning by Bangkok's art community and represents the city's commitment to contemporary culture. ## Exhibitions and Programs The main gallery floors (7th-9th) host major temporary exhibitions that change every few months, ranging from solo shows by prominent Thai artists to international traveling exhibitions covering photography, new media, installation art, and social commentary. The lower gallery floors (3rd-5th) feature smaller project rooms for emerging artists. The ground level hosts free educational programs, film screenings, and cultural talks. Check the BACC website for current exhibition schedules. ## Art Shops and Cafés The middle floors house a curated selection of independent art shops, design boutiques, small galleries, and cafés. These spaces sell original artwork, prints, handmade jewelry, Thai design objects, art books, and creative souvenirs. The cafés on the upper floors offer pleasant spaces to rest between gallery visits. ## Best Time to Visit Weekday afternoons offer the most contemplative gallery experience. Weekends draw larger crowds, especially during high-profile exhibitions. Plan about one to two hours for the galleries and shops. The centre is closed on Mondays. ## How to Get There The BACC is directly connected to BTS National Stadium station via a skywalk. BTS Siam station is also one stop away. The building is impossible to miss at the major Pathumwan intersection. ## Nearby Attractions Jim Thompson House is a 5-minute walk west. Siam Paragon, Siam Center, and Siam Discovery malls are across the intersection. MBK Center is adjacent. SEA LIFE Bangkok Ocean World is in Siam Paragon's basement. Madame Tussauds is in Siam Discovery.
